WILKIE — Bethany Enhanced Living facility in Wilkie held their summer fundraising barbecue June 16.
With the help of management, staff and the board, they were kept busy with pre-orders of meals totaling 179. A total of 101 community members also came to the facility to enjoy the food and fellowship together. Donations were also accepted for the activities fund.
Bethany opened in 2000. This facility had a walk in tub that was funded by a donation from Doug and Thelma Evack, in memory of Thelma’s parents Bill and Clem Sander, who made Bethany their home. The senior assisted living home is located at the former Wilkie Hospital and converted by the Lutheran Church organization.
Bethany provides affordable assisted living to the elderly when they no longer wish to remain alone in their own homes. All rooms are modern with bathroom, cable and all meals, as well as activities, are provided. There are single and double rooms available. Some activities are weekly bingos, cards, church services, puzzles, a library and a common area with a large screen television to sit and enjoy Riders games or each other’s good company.
Bethany also offers three meals and snacks, someone on duty 24 hours to help in case of emergency and medical alert pendants are also available. The idea is that each room becomes the resident's own private place to live. Home care staff can come in for those who need a helping hand and for those who need that service there is a separate large bathroom with walk-in tub.
The June 16 barbecue is just one fundraiser planned by organizers. Donors can get a tax receipt for contributions of $20 or more. Donations can also be mailed to Bethany at Box 629, Wilkie, S0K 4W0.
