UNITY — For more than 30 years, Saskatchewan has recognized one full week to celebrate education.
Education Week took place Oct. 16-22, celebrating student success and hard work and dedication of education professionals across the province. The them for this year’s celebration was “Reaching for tomorrow, celebrating today.”
Schools kicked off the week recognizing and thanking bus drivers with various acts of kindness.
At. St. Peter’s School in Unity, the week featured a number of activities that included a living rosary on the playground. A great turnout was experienced for the seniors/grandparent bingo held Oct. 19. On Oct. 21, the annual family pancake breakfast put on by the staff was enjoyed by school families, in spite of the unfavourable weather.
St. Peter’s staff and students also enjoyed a few spirit days such as class colour day, inside out/backwards day and of course everyone was invited to be part of PJ day that was aligned with the pancake breakfast.
As an added bonus in Unity, as part of Co-op Week and Credit Union Day celebrations, Delta Co-op delivered goodies for staff at Unity schools earlier in the week, while Unity Credit Union brought treats for students at the schools in Unity. It was an additional celebratory action enjoyed by staff and students at Unity Public School, St. Peter’s School and Unity Composite High School.
Kerrobert Composite School kicked off their Education Week activity with a pancake breakfast. As well, each day was designated a different spirit day that included gym blast, anything-but-a-backpack day that resulted in some creative contributions and the week wound up with a better together day.
At KCS, the mission of their student leadership council is “creating a legacy of leaders through spirit, giving and volunteerism on an individual, school, community and global scale.” Rent-a-student became a time-honoured tradition at KCS for many decades. Students were happy to bring back this tradition on Oct. 18 that supported SLC fundraising as well as served as part of their Education Week activity.
In Luseland, a number of spirit days and activities took place including rainbow buddy reading and a team scavenger hunt.
