Community minor hockey programs prepare to hit the ice

Everyone knows as soon as school is back in session, arena programming is soon to follow as community minor hockey programs are in ready mode.

UNITY — With summer in the rearview mirror and fall activities in full sprint, community minor hockey programs are just weeks away from the start of their seasons.

“We have 60 kids registered for LMH, which we feel is a strong number and shows a steady increase in enrolment,” Luseland Minor Hockey spokesperson Dallas Cairns says,

Cairns says their association has only two kids in older age groups and they are hopeful with the increase in registrations this number will steadily increase each year.

LMH will include two initiation teams, two novice teams and, “This is the first time in a long, long time these are really strong age groups”

The remainder of the players will play on combined teams with Kerrobert and Dodsland, splitting practice and game locations.

As mentioned in a previous article, Cairns affirms they are always tight for officials as they have lots of young ones, but the older age groups struggle.

“It is hard to keep them going, but we are working on it.”

Kerrobert Minor Hockey is now taking registrations for a power skating program, running from Oct. 2-5, instructed by Trach Power Skating. West Central Wheat Kings U18AA held fall camp over the September long weekend. Wheat Kings U15AA tryouts are 小蓝视频 held Sept. 8-10 while U13AA tryouts are upcoming Sept. 22-24. Hockey registration for all other minor hockey teams took place, starting in June.

Macklin minor hockey registration kicks off Sept. 5. They are also hosting a hockey camp Sept. 29 to Oct. 1 at the arena with Cole McBride instructing. Families of MMH are encouraged to follow their association’s Facebook page for all the latest news and updates.

Each team has filled their co-ordinator position and Chad Walz and Aaron Agar will serve as members at large.

UMH President, Curtis McLean, says, "As of right now numbers look like this U7-23, U9-29, U11-27,U13-22,U15-19, U18-19. The numbers may change after AA tryouts. As for any things for the first year as president nothing big, just hope things run as smoothly as they have other years. We are already a little behind the eight ball due to the ice going in later due to unforeseen circumstances. We have a good executive who will make sure things run smoothly."

UMH will also hold a Cole McBride development clinic running Oct. 13-15. Because of the ice chiller issues, the 3-on-3 will not occur. UMH registration also took place over the summer.
