Community minor ball programs ready to start season

Programs in Luseland, Kerrobert and Unity need umpires and officials' clinics are planned

UNITY - Luseland Minor Ball organizers are excited to have 83 kids register in the program for the 2022 season.

Lynn Cairns, spokesperson for the LMB program says, “We have two learn-to-play teams, two Rally Cap teams, both a U9 and a U11 girls' teams along with U11 and 13 boys' teams.”

“We are looking forward to the season. Our organization is currently looking for umpires,” adds Cairns.

Cairns also commends the town of Luseland for keeping the diamonds in great shape. She said the donation of a new shed by Brian and Kierra Gottfried is appreciated by the organization. LMB is in the process of ordering new uniforms this year and are excited for players to be sporting new jerseys.

Wilkie Minor Ball says they will have four teams in U5, U7, U10 and U11 for the season. The mosquito boys will head to provincials in July.

Baseball players in Wilkie started practising indoors April 4 and teams say they hope to be back on the diamonds by the end of April or beginning of May.

“We will have a cleanup day that includes cleaning up the batting cage as well as a 'family pitch-in' day to get the grounds ready for games and Minor Ball Day to be held May 29,” a spokesperson says.

Kerrobert Minor Ball, as per their Facebook page says, “After the AGM, KMB officially has six teams for the upcoming season, and possibly seven. There are still a few teams that need coaches and managers.”

Kerrobert's learn-to-play program has 13 enrolled. The Rally Cap division will combine with the U7 girls and there are 14 players registered in that division. Needed are coaches and a manager for their team. U9 girls have 13 players registered and will need a manager. U11 boys have nine players registered and need a head coach. U11 girls also have nine registered and the team will need coaches. In the U15 boys' division there are 11 registered.

KMB says there could potentially be a U13 boys' team and they are currently in discussion with Dodsland and Luseland to combine, and the team will need coaches and a manger.
