50 years ago: Wilkie, Unity, and other communities met to re-establish the Wild Goose Hockey League.

With only $100 in the bank and no coach in place, concerns loomed 20 years ago about viability of Wilkie Outlaws

50 years ago

Unity Golf Club hosted a junior and beginners’ golf tournament, with winners 小蓝视频 Ken Phillips, Harvey Robertson, Pat Risling and Brennan Merkowsky.

Lakeview Hutterite School opened its doors to students for the first time in 1973, but overall student enrolment in Unity, Wilkie, Scott, Leipzig, Denzil, Senlac, Evesham and Cut Knife was down by 200, a drop of between seven and eight percent.

L. R. (Lin) Lang was appointed manager of the Unity branch of the Bank of Montreal. Lang, together with wife Lucille and children Kelly Ann, Michael and Joan, moved to Unity from Morden, Man.

Wilkie, Unity, Biggar, Leader, Kindersley and Eston sent representatives to a meeting to discuss re-establishment of the Wild Goose Hockey League.

20 years ago

Many residents as well as Unity hospital staff were concerned when a retirement led to a full-time nursing position 小蓝视频 filled only temporarily and Heartland Health Region announcing a review of the facility’s staffing requirements.

Carrying flags and in Legion uniform, Andy Winterhalt and Helen Glackin led the Terry Fox Marathon of Hope in Wilkie. Over $3,000 was raised for cancer research.

Dojo karate awards for 2002-03 were presented to Michael Stephenson, Unity, most improved; Bev Barth, Wilkie, spirit of karate-do; and Carlene Grant, Wilkie, competitor of the year and Genbukai Canada Student of the Year.

There were concerns over whether the Wilkie Outlaws would be able to continue with no coach in place for the season and only $100 in the bank account.
