The new CIBC building in Wilkie was officially opened. The new building was constructed on the site of the first Imperial Bank in Wilkie and the town took its name from Dan R. Wilkie, who was the president of the Imperial Bank at the time of incorporation.

A number of Unity 4-H members received awards, including Barry Bloder for fed calf, Ross Leeson for questionnaire, Linda Leeson for judging; Shirley Bloder for showmanship, judging and record book.

General manager Ray Leier appointed Mr. Don Robertson to the position of assistant general manager of the Selkirk Motor Hotel in Unity.

LandsWest School Division recognized retiring staff: Jack Snell, teacher at Kerrobert School; Darlene Kidd, teacher at Macklin School; Robert Zunti, caretaker at Major School; Sylvia Maljan, secretary at Unity Public School; Ron Veller, assistant director of education; and Ray Johnson, director of education.

The Unity Seniors’ Lodge project received bad news when their request for a $1 million grant from Sask Housing was denied. $1.5 million had been raised locally and the grant monies would have meant construction could begin (on what is now known as Parkview Place).

Unity Composite High School student Vanessa Huber was chosen as one of five students from the Battleford/Lloydminster riding to travel to Quebec for six weeks. The Hubers would then in turn host a Quebec student for six weeks.
