Over 300 people turned out in Wilkie to meet with MP Otto Lang, federal minister responsible for the Canadian Wheat Board.
Steen & Wright Furriers announced they would be at Leeson’s Ladies’ Wear in Unity, with a 15-hour fur sale. Advertised prices included a black Persian lamb jacket for $199 and an oyster sheared beaver coat for $695 (regular price of $1,395).
Whooping cranes were spotted at Baldwinton and at the lake near the salt plant in Unity.

A municipal election was upcoming in Unity with 11 candidates – Don Robertson, Maynard Slater, Bill Solohub, Len Smith, Eileen Sword, Tim Klein, Mike Diebel, Richard Briggs, Brian Hammer, Allan Belliveau and Lynn Azeulos – vying for six council seats. Kathy Johnson was acclaimed mayor.
In Wilkie, an additional call for nominations had to be issued for the final council seat. Acclaimed were David Ziegler, Alex Majewski, Jim Waldner, Sandra Miller and Jason Halter.
After Lee-Ann Saxton of Atlanta, Ga., representing a U.S. investors’ group, spent four days in the area, the Prairie Springs Mineral Spa committee were optimistic a sod-turning could yet happen before winter. Saxton indicated she was going to recommend her group invest in the Wilkie project.
Unity’s first Fun Day of Golf took place, organized by Tony Fischer and Bill Fraser as a fundraiser for the Unity seniors’ lodge project. The result was $20,000 to add to the bank account.
