13-year cemetery project finally completed

The finishing touches have been added to Broadacres Cemetery, but family may want to check for deteriorating markers.

BROADACRES - After 13 years of planning, logistics and everything else involved in seeing this project completed, the Broadacres Cemetery Project is now finished.

Bev Volk, along with husband Fred and a few neighbours, saw how much the Broadacres Cemetery was in need of a refresh. As secretary of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Volk knew past parishioners had made donations for the cemetery.

“Our little committee wanted to pay respect to those who raised the funds for the cemetery by giving back to the community cemetery,” said Volk. She also urges anyone who has family in the cemetery to check in on the grave markers as some are deteriorating and need replacing.

A new sign was designed by Volk’s husband and son, Shane Connery Volk, and was manufactured by Metal Man Art & Design out of Vanscoy. Both the sign and fence were installed and the cross rebuilt and refurbished.

Volk said this project is dedicated to the early pioneers and settlers of Broadacres and District whose vision, hard work and contributions have made this beautiful farming district what it is today.

Anyone who would like to donate to the Broadacres Cemetery for future plans is asked to contact Bev Volk at 306-834-7166.
