You?ve decided to start working out. Congratulations! For many people, it?s time to get suited up. This might mean finding some old sweat pants and your comfiest t-shirt. For others it means hitting lululemon for the latest, most fashionable workout gear. As long as you?re comfortable, what you wear doesn?t matter much until we reach your feet.

Your shoes can either make your workout experience wonderful or horrible. Use these tips to find your perfect pair of shoes.

A shoe should never need to be ?broken in?. Workout shoes should fit comfortably from the first time you put them on.

The fit. You should have about half an inch (about a thumb?s width) of room at the toe. The heel should fit well and not slip when you walk. The top of the shoe should be snug but not too tight and you should be able to freely wiggle your toes.

You should always shop for shoes at the end of the day when your feet are at their largest.

Make sure you bring along your orthotics and workout socks when selecting new shoes. You want to make sure you try on shoes in the exact scenario you will be wearing them.

Get fitted. It pays to visit a store that will properly measure your feet, analyze your footprint and watch the way you stand and walk.

Be prepared to spend some money. Great shoes, like anything, cost money. An average pair of shoes can cost between $100 and $200. They are well worth the investment.

Know when to replace your shoes. When your shoes start to wear out or aren?t offering as much support as they once did, it?s time for a new pair. Shoes should be replaced every 350-400 miles.

A great pair of shoes can save you from shin splints, knee pain, back pain, rolled ankles and the list goes on. A $10 pair of shoes will support your feet like a $10 pair of shoes. Save yourself a lot of trouble and pain by giving your feet the support they deserve.
