Humboldt ministerial Christmas: Decide where to place focus this Christmas

"As we count down the days to Dec. 25 let us give thanks to God for the gifts of hope, peace, joy and love which came to dwell among us in the birth of the Christ Child." — Reverend Brenda Curtis, Westminster United Church

“Joy to the world! The Lord is come; let earth receive her King! Let every heart prepare him room….”

We are so fortunate in our faith community to have a visual artist who creates amazing bulletin board displays for us to enjoy with every new season.

I especially like the one put up recently for Advent. It’s a “Christmas to do list” that goes like this: “Buy presents; Wrap gifts; Send gifts; Shop for food; Hang the lights”. As an overlay however, that original list has been changed by crossing off a few items and making some adjustments so that it now reads: “Be present; Wrap someone in a hug; Send peace; Donate food; Be the Light! Its a great illustration of how a little shift in focus can make all the difference in the world!

So, what does your Christmas “to do list” look like this year? Where are you putting your focus as Christmas draws near?

Advent gives us an opportunity to think about where and how we want to invest our precious time and energy in preparation for Christmas. As we count down the days to Dec. 25 let us give thanks to God for the gifts of hope, peace, joy and love which came to dwell among us in the birth of the Christ Child. And may we use these precious gifts, which have already been tucked into our hearts, to bring good news to others and the Light of Love into our hurting world.

Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
