Clif was predeceased by his loving wife, Elizabeth Louise (Betty) and brother Robert Lorne Spence. "Don't cry because I'm gone..Smile because I was here". A Celebration of Life Memorial was held Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. from Knights of Columbus Hall, North Battleford, SK. Order of Service was Words of Welcome by Ivan White; a reading: "Cremation of Sam McGee" by Keri Millard; "Grandpa's Contracting Career" by The Grandchildren and "Reminisces of Clif" by Ivan White. Ivan reconstructed a replica of Clif's vehicle dash. Everyone who knew Clif knew the dash was his office; cigarettes, candy bars, licorice, maps, auction flyers, mail, pens, CD's, etc. Ivan knew Clif pretty well. The family greatly appreciated Ivan's shared memories as we laughed through our tears. Music Selections were played by Larry Symynuk and Dennis Pidwerbeski. A Scripture Reading: Ecclesiastes Chapter 3 was read by Darcy Millard. Growing up, Clif lived in the Speers, Mayfair, Handel and Dodsland areas. He married Betty Gunderson in 1943 and together they purchased the original homestead in the Speers area in 1951. In 1953 Clif started a road construction business which he operated until 1974. Clif served as the Reeve of the R.M. of Douglas for 10 years. About 1974 he started the heavy equipment sale and service operation in Mayfair. In 1980 the business moved to the present North Battleford site and Clif and Betty moved from the farm to their North Battleford home. Clif was still actively farming and running the heavy equipment sales and service business until he retired at age 85. Right up till the last weeks, he was making trips out to the farm and stopping over at the shop at least 2 to 3 times a week. Many summers spent at the cabin at Chitek Lake and then at Meeting Lake were great fun times. Together Clif and Betty enjoyed many winters in Yuma visiting with friends and getting in on the deals at the Swap Meet. He particularly loved the North and had several trips to Alaska. Any day he could go for a drive in the country and also have coffee with friends was a good day. Clif enjoyed keeping in the know about what his grandchildren were up to and was especially happy when the great-grandchildren would stop for a visit. Music, books, cards, of course along with candy and yes, his smokingand grocery shopping kept Clif busy. Special thanks go to Joanne (caregiver) for her kindness and compassion. Her daily commitment helped enable Clif to remain in his own home and also be able to have his daily outings to the farm and the shop. Clif enjoyed Joanne's company. Memorials are requested to The Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation Inc, Box 1358, North Battleford, SK S9A 3L8. A Private Family Interment took place at City Cemetery, North Battleford, SK.
