SCHAFER: It is with sadness and yet a sense of thanksgiving that the family of Edward Schafer announces his passing on April 15, 2011 into the kingdom of Heaven. Ed was born to Karl and Emma Schafer on March 7, 1934 in North Battleford. Ed spent his childhood and youth in the North Battleford area creating many friendships that last even to this day. Ed graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1957 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, a profession he would continue to practice until he retired in 2010. Ed married Marlene Hoppe in 1959. This union would produce two children, Stewart and Travis and would end with the passing of Marlene in 1999. Ed and his family moved to Calgary in 1965 when Ed was hired by Revelstoke as a junior engineer, Ed worked for Revelstoke for 20 years eventually becoming the senior engineer. Ed and Marlene returned to North Battleford in 1985. Their eldest son Stewart followed in 1987 and Travis in 1988. Ed had many business ventures over the years but the ones that brought him the most personal satisfaction were the ones that included his sons. Along with his son Stewart he operated an engineering consulting firm, Schafer Engineering. Many buildings around the Battlefords were designed by Ed over the years. In June of 2002 Ed married Elaine Dallow. Together the two of them took many trips, going from Alaska to Phoenix and from Newfoundland to Maui. Ed will be missed and his memory cherished by his wife Elaine; His sons: Stewart (Kim) - Aidane and Tegan; and Travis (Michelle) - Aimee, Jessica and Christopher; as well as numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.
