NASH: Sophia Emma Nash was born at home near Turtle Lake, SK on November 29, 1920 to her parents George and Mary Davidson, a sister for her three older brothers, Buster Brooks, Archie and Arthur Davidson. In the fall of 1927 the family moved to Rabbit Lake, SK; she started school there at the age of 7. A year later her mother passed away three weeks after her sister Betty was born. Her father wasn't able to look after the children so they were sent to live with their uncles. Mom was sent to live with her Uncle Ed Cheyne and his new bride, in the Fairholme area. She stayed with them till she was finished her Grade 8. During that time there were 7 children born to Ed and Freida that Mom helped to look after. They were her little bothers and sisters and she their big sister, they called her "Sissy". At 17 years old she went out working as a maid for people in the area, later she found work in Edam, and then in the Minnehaha district where she met Ernest Nash. They were married October 31, 1942. They took over the farm from his parents, starting out using horses to work the land. Milking cows, raising pigs and chickens as well as growing a large garden was their source of income. They raised a family of 8 children: Doreen Jack, Connie, Pat, Ted, Don, Marlene and Jim. Mom and Dad loved dancing and attending the whist card games and Christmas concerts at Minnehaha School. Mom was active with the Minnehaha Ladies Club as was as the Minnehaha Quilting Club. Later after moving to Edam, she was active with the United Church Women. Dad's health was failing so they retired from the farm in September of 1978. Dad passed away six weeks later. Mom took to travelling which took her to many parts of the world, Scotland, England, Australia, New Zealand, Figi, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Alaska, all of Canada and many States. Her family was very dear to her heart, from her first born to her 5th generation grandson. She was present at all graduations, baptisms, as well as many sports events and any academic achievements. In June of 2006 she moved to the Valley View Towers 1 in North Battleford, there she enjoyed many more new friends along with playing cards, bingo and shuffleboard.
