GARDINER - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Catherine Gardiner, late of North Battleford on July 12, 2011 at the age of 94 years. Catherine was born October 26, 1916 at Baljennie, Saskatchewan. Catherine is lovingly remembered by her children: Violet (Frank) Weber and their children - Greg (Michelle), Jason (Melissa): Jacob and Katelyn, and Kari (Eliot): Joshua; Fred (Evelyn) Gardiner and their children - Shannon (Randy) Iverson: Ryley and Alyssa, Shaun (Karla) Gardiner: Reid and Erik, Sheldon (Shauna) Gardiner: Brooke and Ashlyn; Cheryl (David) Wawryk; sister Jeanine (Bill) Schaefer; brother Jim (Sophie) Parkinson; as well as many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased her husband Jack; infant granddaughter Julie Anne; brothers Bill, Dave, Tom, Doug, and Bob Parkinson; and infant sister Janet. Catherine was born to Ralph and Netta Parkinson at Baljennie, Saskatchewan. She grew up on the family farm with 6 brothers and 1 sister, and attended school at Baljennie. In the mid 30's she met Jack Gardiner, who owned and operated a garage and service station in Baljennie. They were married November 21, 1938 at Denholm, Saskatchewan. In 1958 Cathie and Jack moved to Battleford, and built a TV shop on 22nd Street. They met many new friends and customers. Cathie and Jack were very hospitable, and Cathie loved to bake. Pies cakes, muffins and cookies were her specialty. She could whip up a meal in a flash. She had a passion for gardening and making things grow. She grew beautiful gardens, and shared the bountiful produce with friends, neighbors and family. Cathie was a loving caregiver. She looked after Jack during his illness, until he passed away in October, 1977. She also went daily to help her aging parents and blind brother, Bob, for several years. Mom didn't drive a car, but she had a 3-wheel bike that got her around - sometimes with a grandchild and a dog in the back basket. Grandchildren, great grandchildren and family reunions played a big part in her life. Due to failing health, Cathie had made her home in River Heights Lodge for the past 3 years. The memorial service was held on Saturday July 16 from the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Battleford with Wes Denaka officiating. The family have requested that memorial donations be made to the River Heights Lodge Auxiliary (2001-99th Street, North Battleford, SK S9A 0S3). Interment took place at the Town of Battleford Cemetery. Condolences for the family may be left at Catherine's family would like to warmly thank friends and family for food, cards, phone calls and loving support. A special thank you to Dr. Lipsett as well as the nurses and staff at River Heights Lodge for the excellent care Catherine received over the years. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kristeen Nylander of Sallows and McDonald Funeral Home, North Battleford, SK. 445-2418 ____________________________________________________
