The Battlefords Midget Bandits' season has ended after losing in the Battlefords and District Ladies' Fastball League championship Wednesday and losing out of the midget B provincial championship July 8 to 10, but for three players the season is just getting exciting.
Erin and Tori Heinemann and Sydney Rempel have been picked up by the Pilot Butte Prairie Storm softball team for the remainder of the season. The Prairie Storm placed second at the provincial championship in Unity two weeks ago and will be heading to Western Canadians in Medicine Hat, Alta. Aug. 4 to 7.
Before infielder Erin, catcher Tori and Sydney, a pitcher, join their new team at Westerns they met with their new teammates in Steamboat Springs, Colo. this week. The three Bandits joined the Prairie Storm who entered in the Triple Crown Girls' 18 and Under Fastpitch World Series. The tournament started Monday and will conclude Saturday.
The Prairie Storm were scheduled to play Tuesday at 3 and 5 p.m. against the Arizona Outlaws and Pueblo Gold. Wednesday, the Prairie Storm were back in action against Chaos and the Colorado Stampede Elite. The top four teams in each of the four pools will advance to the gold bracket with the bottom two teams in each pool playing off in the silver bracket.
The Prairie Storm will be the only Canadian team playing in the 15th annual, 23-team tournament that includes teams from Colorado, Utah, California, Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana, New Mexico, Arizona and Kansas.
The Prairie Storm entered a similar tournament, as a 16 and under team, that was played in Park City, Utah but this year's experience should be exciting and a good tune up heading into Westerns.
