As winter creeps closer outdoor sports continue to wrap up in the Battlefords and Sept. 18 marked the end of the Battlefords Horseshoe Club season.

The club held their annual year end windup at the clubhouse in North Battleford with an afternoon of horseshoe pitching, followed by a pot-luck supper and dancing and singing later in the evening.

In match doubles, Howard Weitzel and Frank Ironstand took first place after beating three other teams.

Ironstand also won the Loonie League and the club's most improved trophy.

In regular league play, Marg Kemp was the top pitcher through the season.

Doreen Dudek beat her average points by 16, followed by husband Peter at 11 and Weitzel at nine.

Weitzel was also acknowledged by Horseshoe Canada for the most games won in tournament play with 47 throughout the summer months. Weitzel was also credited with the highest game with an 81.9 per cent ringers mark.

Regular league play will pick up once again in early spring of 2011. Anyone interested in learning how to play or join the club can contact Marg Kemp at 445-5646 or Eileen Kozakewick.
