One of the best features of the small town rodeo is often some local talent gets mixed in with the stalk of experienced cowboys and cowgirls and it makes for an exciting weekend of rodeo.
Edam held it's annual indoor rodeo and again the cowboys, cowgirls, cows and horses didn't disappoint.
The winner of the saddle bronc competition was Rhett Fitzpatrick of Wood Mountain. Fitzpatrick was scheduled to be the final saddle bronc rider of the weekend and rode Horse Fly to a 75-point ride.
The top bareback rider hails from Piapot, as Brady Bertram held on toe C.B. for the full eight seconds for 77 points and first place.
Three cowboys competed in the novice bareback event and one was in the novice saddle bronc event, but none of the four youngsters held on to record a score.
There were some impressive bull riding scores, but it was Cody Coverchuck of Meadow Lake, who rode WTF to an 86-point ride. In second place with an 85 was Dakota Buttar of Kindersley and in third with an 84 point score was Kory Kinnis of Grenfell.
Riley Warren from Stettler, Alta won the tie down roping event with an 8.5 time.
The first steer wrestler, Chad Hantleman of Kyle set the bar high with a time of 4.7 and that couldn't be beat all weekend as he took first place.
Laurie Johnson Barton of Outlook was the top ladies' barrel racer beating out nearly 30 riders. Her time was 12.31.
In the team roping event, the Alberta team of Trent Tunke and Brady O'Donnell took top honours with a time of 5.4.
Along with the Friday and Saturday evening performances, there was a bonus performance for the extra registered participants Saturday morning and the amateur bull riding event, which is a popular event each year at the Edam Indoor Rodeo, drew fans out to the arena Thursday evening.
