Tony Oak ended his North Stars career with 202 regular season games, 16 goals, 42 assists and 846 penalty minutes. He leaves the Battlefords as a fan favourite and one of three players to commit to a Canadian scholarship from the 2010-11 Battlefords North Stars.

It has been known for a little while, but last week, Battlefords North Stars general manager and head coach Ken Pearson made it known officially two more graduates earned scholarships to Canadian schools.

Tony Oak, the longest serving North Star on the 2010-11 roster, accepted a scholarship to Simon Fraser University in British Columbia.

Oak was named the team's Most Inspirational Player, voted the Fan's Choice Award winner and received a $2,500 scholarship from Northwest Hockey Development at the year-end awards banquet.

Weeks before the official announcement, the North Stars assistant captain said he was looking forward to playing at Simon Fraser and was truly appreciative of his time in the Battlefords.

Oak will enroll in biochemistry and be part of the 2011-12 hockey roster.

The other North Star graduate to commit to a Canadian scholarship last week was the team's plus/minus award winner Cody Folstad. Folstad accepted a scholarship to play with the Portage College Voyageurs in Lac La Biche, Alta.

Folstad will join former North Star Kyle Birch, who committed to Lac La Biche earlier in March.

Folstad had eight goals and 27 assists in 55 games and 105 penalty minutes in his second season with the North Stars, as well as serving as an assistant captain for his 20-year-old season.

Other North Star graduates, with the help of Pearson, are nearly set to officially commit to hockey programs for next season and more news could be coming within weeks.
