Nov. 6, nine members of the local club took part in the North East Genbukai Karate-Do Championships in St. Paul, Alta.

Of those nine, Bonnie Kowalski and Kaitlin Tarasoff won medals. Kowalski earned silver in sparring, weapon forms and Kata while competing in the ladies' black belt division.

Tarasoff competed in the girls' yellow belt division and won bronze in Kata.

In total, around 200 members from Alberta and Saskatchewan competed in the high intensity championships.

The next competition for the local club is in March in Lloydminster and Sensei Elmer Woytiuk expects there will be over 400 athletes and elite competition. For now, the club will be training for the belt rank testing that will be done in December.
