Monday night, one of the most anticipated games in the North Saskatchewan River Baseball League was played in Wilkie, as the Brewers hosted the defending league champions, the Lloydminster Meridian Twins. One of the team's winning streaks would be snapped.
The Twins improved to 6-0-1 on the season with an 11-6 win. Warren Stang pitched five strong innings, while Barrett Nielsen started for the Brewers.
The Twins capitalized on the Brewers' mistakes early and often, as their first seven runs were unearned.
Wilkie dropped to 6-2-0, but hold the second spot in the NSRBL standings and lost their first game in seven games.
In North Battleford Monday, the Beavers hosted the Lloydminster Junior Redhawks. The Redhawks edged the Beavers 3-2. The plan, according to the Beavers a day before the meeting, was to have left-hander Kyle Gregoire start on the mound for the Beavers.
The Beavers fall to 3-4-0 on the season and snap their three-game winning streak. The Redhawks improved to 4-2-0.
Sunday, the Redhawks earned a 5-1 win over the Kindersley Raiders. Also on the day, Kindersley beat the Border City Blue Jays 10-9. The Raiders are 4-3-0 on the season.
Friday evening scores had the Lloydminster Twins beating the Redhawks 6-2 and the Unity Cardinals beating the Raiders 9-0. Unity is 4-1-0 on the season.
This week will be a busy in the NSRBL as four games were scheduled for Tuesday evening, one Wednesday and three Thursday. By the end of the week most teams will be at, or past the halfway mark of their regular season schedules.
