It has to be considered a dynasty when you have played in the North Saskatchewan River Baseball League championship for nine straight seasons.
On top of that, the Lloydminster Meridian Twins won their third straight championship and did so without losing a game since the semi finals of the 2009 season.
The Twins played the Wilkie Brewers and won 4-3 and 9-5 to earn the seventh title for the Twins since 2000.
In Lloydminster Tuesday in game one, the Twins jumped out to a 4-0 lead with Alejandro Garcia starting on the mound. Thanks to a moon shot off the bat of Kelly Hoffer the Twins held off the Brewers late charge and took the series opener.
Aaron Sittler pitched the complete game for the Wilkie, as he suffered the loss. Too many mistakes by Wilkie at the plate, on the base paths and in the field were their down fall in game one.
Wednesday, game two was played in Wilkie and the Twins had not only momentum in the series, but history on their side. In the previous eight championships between the Twins and Brewers the trophy has been handed out in Wilkie the past seven years.
That was the case again this season, as the Twins won it in two games.
DJ File started the Twins' offence with a two-out two-run home run in the first inning. Wilkie responded with three runs in the bottom of the first.
The Twins continued to score runs while the Brewers had runners on base, but failed to plate another runner until the sixth inning.
A rally to score two runs put the Brewers down 8-5 with one inning left. Brad Frehlich worked the seventh inning and allowed one more run and the Brewers failed to start a rally in the bottom of the seventh. Troy Winterhalt earned the complete game win for the Twins.
Russ Nielsen was saddled with the loss.
For the Twins they earn their third straight championship, keep their undefeated streak alive and have the most North Saskatchewan River Baseball League championships in league history with seven. Wilkie has six championships, North Battleford has won the trophy four times, and Standard Hill and Mervin have each won the title once.
