The Maidstone Jets had a great season finishing with a place in the SHA senior A provincial final.
In the run to the finals they met up with Shellbrook, Kindersley, St. Walburg and Bruno. In each of those series they beat their competition in two games. The final team to meet this season was Balgonie.
Maidstone won the first game at home 3-2. In Balgonie, the home team beat won 2-1 sending the series back to Maidstone for the third and final match of the series.
Sunday night, the stands at the Maidstone Arena were packed with fans of all ages and the home team took an early lead with Garret Cameron scoring the first goal just under 7 minutes into the first period. Ryan Kuntz scored Balgonie's first goal with just 3:15 left in the period and the score was tied 1-1 after one.
The second period was filled with horn blasts and the sound of a tambourine, as Maidstone added three more goals. Chris Hartman, Cameron again, and on a penalty shot by Ryan Johnston scored for the Jets.
Grant Selinger scored Balgonie's only goal in the second period leaving Maidstone leading 4-2.
The third period belonged to the Balgonie Bison. Derek Bach scored early in the third for Balgonie and that was followed by a successful shot by Maidstone's Blair Thoms. Balgonie's Drew Istace scored next making it a 5-4 game. Five seconds into Maidstone's only penalty of the third period, Chad Richardson found the net to tie the game.
The winning goal was scored by Selinger with 3:23 left in the game making the score 6-5 and although the play continued fast and clean, Maidstone was forced to be satisfied with the second place plaques while the championship trophy was carried south to Balgonie.
