Terriers wrestle provincial title from Barons

The peewee A provincial title was on the line on the weekend and the Battlefords Peewee A Barons did their best in their quest for the championship banner.

Unfortunately for the Barons, the Yorkton Terriers had the same intentions and captured the provincial title after outscoring the Battlefords 11-7 in the two-game total-goal series.

Game one Friday night at the Civic Centre was a well-played game by both teams. After the first period, the Barons led 2-1 thanks to goals by Dalton Dumont and Rett Taggart.

Yorkton evened the score four minutes into the second when Brandon Pelletier scored his second of four goals in the game.

In the third period, the Barons reclaimed the lead when Jacob Stynsky found the back of the net. Yorkton responded with three goals in a span of two and half minutes and led 5-3. The Barons were running out of time and with less than three minutes remaining, they crashed the net and found a loose puck in the crease, as Spence Wasmuth made it 5-4.

That was how game one ended and the Barons' coaching staff hoped their physical style of play would pay off in the smaller confines of the Yorkton rink Sunday.

They may have been able to play physical, but the Terriers refused to surrender the series lead and won game two 6-3 and captured the provincial title.

The Barons provincial season ended after a 2-2 record.
