THE BATTLEFORDS - Robyn Silvernagle and her team were back in action on the ice this weekend at the Moose Jaw Women’s Saskatchewan Curling Tour event.
The Twin Rivers Curling Club-based team of Silvernagle, third Kristen Streifel, second Jessie Hunkin and lead Dayna Demers were in action Nov. 5-7 in Moose Jaw. They won their first three games 6-3 over Mandy Selzer, 5-3 over Madison Kleiter, and 6-5 over Ashley Howard to qualify for the playoffs. But in the playoffs they conceded their game to Team Kaitlyn Jones by a 7-4 score. It was the Moose Jaw rink of Penny Barker that ultimately won the event.
For Team Silvernagle, they are getting used to played together again as a full team after Silvernagle went on maternity leave to welcome a new baby to her family.
Her son Kolt Matthew Guidinger was born six weeks premature, and he has had health challenges that prompted a GoFundMe fundraising effort. According to that GoFundMe page, Kolt had successful surgery to reattach his esophagus and he is due to undergo heart surgery between four and six months of age.
Kolt's health challenges have meant that Silvernagle has spent a lot of time in Edmonton following her son’s surgery. But it also meant she could return to her curling team ahead of schedule.
According to the team’s Facebook page, on Oct. 9 Silvernagle was back with the team in Calgary at the Curlers Corner Autumn Gold event, losing to Jennifer Jones by a 7-2 score.
Their full lineup was back in action again at the Boundary Ford Curling Classic in Lloydminster on Oct. 29-Nov. 1, an event Silvernagle had won before. In Lloydminster, the team also qualified into playoff action.
