When most think of playing darts they see it as a recreational hobby, but for some across Saskatchewan it is more than that - it is a way to compete and strive to be the best of the best.
Oct. 2, the North Battleford Dart Club held an Oktobershoot tournament in North Battleford at Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 70 with 37 dart throwers stretching from the Battlefords, to Regina, to Flin Flon, Man.
In men's singles, Cliff Culbert of Hodgeville took top honours. Culbert is ranked sixth in the province. Local Jason Skinner, who is ranked among the top 10 in the province, finished first in Jnt fifth singles for the second straight year.
Laurie Kitzul of Saskatoon was first in ladies' singles.
The top mixed triples team was from Saskatoon including Kitzul, Andy Townend and Karsten Larsen. The local team of Jody Germann, ranked 19th, Sharon Acker, ranked 10th on the ladies' side, and Bill Lobb, ranked 36th, were second.
The Oktobershoot was the second of the season for provincial competitors with tournaments coming up in Prince Albert and Hudson Bay this month.
