Summer curling tradition

Many in Saskatchewan, and Northwest Saskatchewan for that matter, can't get enough curling. What better way to get your curling fix in July than entering the annual Livelong Summerspiel.

Many in Saskatchewan, and Northwest Saskatchewan for that matter, can't get enough curling. What better way to get your curling fix in July than entering the annual Livelong Summerspiel.

The 15th annual summer bonspiel began in Livelong July 10 and had teams from across the Northwest enter for fun, for the love of the sport and for some good competition.

Winning the A-event was the Meadow Lake team of Tom Gary, Robert Kytwyhat, Kevin Valliere and Woody Matvenko of Turtle Lake.

The A-event runner-ups were Roland and Patsy Olson and Jeff and Penny Wall of Turtleford.

The local team of Doug, Ben and Sandy Smith along with Blake Johnson won the B-event.

The Smith rink beat Baby Bombers from Canwood that included Ron and Sandra Hobbs and Peter and Margaret Adair.

Dick Wisner, Gordy Hagen and Lyle and Sharron Russell of Glenbush won the C-event over Turtleford's Janet Bellanger, Cathy Braaten, Cheryl Stames and Bruce Spencer.

In the D-event it was Livelong's Stan and Martha Johnson, Buster Bodnar and Ron Range winning the D.

The D-event runner-ups were Debbie Graham, Marie Kube, Raeleen McDougall and Susanne Painter from Lloydminster.

Along with the bonspiel there was a Sturling Bonspiel and the winners were René and Jason Stein of Turlteford.

The second place team of the Sturling Bonspeil was Dave Kradovil and Marv Zulynik of Battleford and in third were Charles Stein and Dave Pliska of Turtleford.

The event had nearly 20 teams with draws starting as early as 9 a.m. and final draws at 7:4 p.m.
