It was busy week of hockey for Eric Pfeifer and it is only July. Pfeifer was one of 40 players invited to the Sask First Hockey camp for five days of training and scouting.
After skating with Mike Babcock July 17, Pfeifer was on the ice July 19 for Sask First Camp. The Bantam AA Barons defenceman was joined by Battlefords AAA Stars forwards Justin Lund, Colby Cave and Dylan Fluter.
Lund, a Langham product, scored 11 goals and had 16 assists in his rookie season with the Stars in 41 games.
Cave, who was born and raised in North Battleford, was second on the team points with 15 goals and 21 assists in 42 games as a rookie.
Fluter, of Saskatoon, had 10 goals and 15 assists in 43 games with the Stars and was also a rookie this year.
As for goalies from the area, Regan Santoro of Saskatoon played 33 games as a rookie for the Stars and had a 7-19-2 record with a .863 save percentage during the season and was one of eight goalies at the five-day Sask First camp.
Another goalie from the area was Luke Grassl. The 15-year-old netminder played with the Maidstone Midget Jets this season.
Some of the province's best young female hockey players were also at a Sask First camp in July and the Battlefords Sharks' hockey program was represented by two players.
Shiayli Toni, 14, was one of the forwards from the Sharks' program at the Sask First five-day camp July 14 to 18 in Wilcox. Toni had two goals and an assist in her rookie season. The other Shark was 17-year-old forward Amanda Grainger. Grainger has played 81 total games with the Sharks over three seasons and last year, the Warman product was an assistant captain with the Sharks.
