It was a busy first week in the North Saskatchewan River Baseball League, as the 14 teams try to determine where they fit in.
Picking up the action from Friday, the Mervin Flyers beat the Wilkie Brewers the night before and continued that winning trend by beating the Meadow Lake White Sox 11-1. Matt H. allowed five hits for and struck out five in the complete game win. Les Ellis was saddled with the loss for Meadow Lake. Kelly Baillargeon and Garrett MacNab both had two hits and an RBI.
Also Friday night, the Wilkie Brewers got an impressive pitching performance from Barrett Nielsen, who took a no-hitter into the sixth inning. Wilkie won 5-1 with Nielsen allowing just one run and striking out 11. Barrett's catcher and younger brother Mitch Nielsen had two hits and an RBI in the win. Cody Wilgenbusch and Mike Sittler each had two RBI. Reid Flasch was the losing pitcher after giving up five hits and four runs in five innings.
Sunday, Kindersley played a double header against the Lloydminster Twins and St. Walburg Reds. The Twins pulled out the 11-10 win over the Raiders while the Reds were handed their third loss of the season. The Raiders beat St. Walburg by a 10-5 score.
Monday, the Lloydminster Twins continued their winning ways, as they beat the North Battleford Beavers 11-1.
The Beavers, Reds, Lloydminster Midget and Midwest Expos are the four winless teams after week one. Four teams are on the other end of the spectrum, as the Twins, Flyers, Unity Cardinals and Standard Hill Lakers are all undefeated.
