The passing of Dale Willick earlier this month was not only mourned by the entire North Saskatchewan River Hockey League, but in particular his home town team, Spiritwood, which coached for years.
The Spiritwood Timberwolves had two home games on the weekend and had an opportunity to honour and remember Willick, a coach, a friend and as many knew him as, the league statistician and statistician of a handful of other hockey leagues in Saskatchewan.
Spiritwood won one of the two home games this weekend. Friday, the Timberwolves beat Edam 6-4. Lanny Fisher scored twice while Ryan Turgeon, Tyler Fisher, Jeff Caffet and Brad Doucette all had single markers against Edam's Quinton Gauthier.
Edam had just 10 skaters and it was Jacob LeClare, Martin Smith, Joel Budd and Mike Weber scoring for the Three Stars.
Marty Lehouilleir was the winning goalie.
The Timberwolves hosted St. Walburg Saturday and it was the Eagles winning 10-2. Aaron Goldade led the attack with five goals and two assists for the Eagles. Darren Delainey had a goal and four assists while Taylor Thiessen had a goal and two assists. John Larre, Shayne Fenton and Randy Larre were the other Eagles' goal scorers.
Kristian Sawyshyn was the winning goalie.
As for the Timberwolves, Lehouillier was saddled with the loss while Shane Gopher scored both Spiritwood goals.
One other score reported from Saturday had Turtleford winning 4-3 in Wilkie.
Friday night scores had Meadow Lake fall to St. Walburg 7-2 in St. Walburg and Maidstone win on home ice against Turtleford.
