They outlasted the North Stars, Midget Stars and Beaver Blues, but now the Battlefords AAA Sharks' season has come to an end.
The Sharks were in Notre Dame for game three of round one Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League playoffs and game three went just as the first two games did - a lot of shots and goals from Notre Dame and a shutout at the other end.
The Sharks kept the score at 1-0 until 16 second remained in the first period. After trailing 2-0 at the break, the Sharks allowed four goals in the second and three more in third frame falling 9-0.
The Sharks had just 10 players on the roster for game three and two goalies, Hannah Brock and Jacy Akre, who split time. Brock stopped 25 of 30 shots while Akre made 20 saves on 24 shots.
The Notre Dame scoring was evenly spread out, as all but two players had a point. Taylor Woods, led the way with a hat trick while five others had two point efforts.
Notre Dame was 3/10 on the powerplay while the Sharks were unsuccessful on nine attempts.
The loss brings a close to a long season for the Sharks and ends the SFMAAAHL careers of three skaters; Amanda Grainger, Janaya Bourelle and Courtney Laycock.
Grainger played four seasons, 109 regular season games, scored seven goals and had 11 assists. Bourelle played three seasons totalling 83 games and had seven assists as a solid defenceman for the Sharks. Laycock played one season and tallied one goal in 27 games.
The Sharks now turn their attention to the recruiting process and getting the coaching staff in place for next season. The Sharks' spring camp will be April 9 and 10 at the Don Ross.
