Sharks set for Sask First Tourney

This weekend, several players from Battlefords Sharks along with other female hockey players from area will meet up with the best of the rest at the 2011 Sask First Female Tournament in Regina.

This weekend, several players from Battlefords Sharks along with other female hockey players from area will meet up with the best of the rest at the 2011 Sask First Female Tournament in Regina.

The action gets started Friday with the eight zones represented and the Battlefords sending six players to play on the Zone 7 team with the surrounding area chipping in to fill out the 20-player roster.

Danae Bugler of the Bantam Sharks and Kayla Wakelin of the Midget Sharks will be the Zone 7 goalies.

On defence will be two AAA Sharks, Rachel Trach of North Battleford and Taylor Durocher of Meadow Lake.

The forward unit consists of Tori Bonnett and Kendra Gerbig - the players from the Battlefords on the AAA Sharks' roster.

Other AAA Sharks forwards who made the team include: Raeanna Kelly of Cut Knife, Shania Rhinehart of Paynton and Delaney Ross of Meadow Lake.

Jamie Fedler of the Battlefords Midget Sharks also made the team along with Keinyn Nordell, who plays in Edam.

One other AAA Shark, Shayna Thomas, will play with her home zone, as the Rosthern product made the Zone 8 team.

Emma Lund, a Midget Shark, is playing with Zone 5, listed as a forward from Langham.

The girls in the tournament range from 13 to 16 years old.

All teams will play three round robin games and one playoff game, as they are evaluated and ranked for positions on Team Saskatchewan.
