BATTLEFORD - The Swift Current Wildcats are the latest team to dash the hopes of the Battlefords Sharks in the female U18 hockey league playoffs.
The Wildcats beat the Sharks three games to one, in a series that saw the Wildcats shut down the Sharks’ offence, particularly in the final two games.
The Sharks dropped the opening game in Swift Current March 5 by a 3-1 score. But the Sharks rebounded with a 2-1 win the following day in Battleford. The Sharks got both their goals from Lacey Schneider on the power play in the first period.
But the Wildcats responded with convincing wins on March 9 by a 4-0 score in Swift Current, followed by a 4-1 win on March 12 in Battleford to finish the series. The final Sharks goal of the season was scored by Cassidy Peters in the third period.
Swift Current’s win sets up a semifinal series against the Regina Rebels starting March 19 and 20. The other semifinal pits Notre Dame against Saskatoon.
