After the regular season had each team scheduled to play each other six times, the playoffs appear now to be bring out the intensity in the teams.
Both series, Maymont versus Saulteaux and Radisson against Battleford, have two games completed and elimination games coming up in the best-of-five series.
Maymont downed Saulteaux 14-8 Sunday to take the series lead. The Settlers' offence was led by Kenton Albert, who notched four goals and two assists. Stacey Wandler and Colby Beierle each had three goals and two assists. Chris Beierle, Chad Bernier, Tyler Hubbard and Tyson Poitras all had single markers for the visiting Settlers.
Shane Chicoine allowed seven goals in 28 minutes while Mat Leitner gave up just one.
Kyle Checkosis and Cage Whittleton also both saw action for the 3 Stars, as Whittleton allowed 10 goals in 49 minutes and Checkosis allowed four in 11 minutes played.
Shalon Fox had a hat trick for Saulteaux while Dakota Tootoosis had a goal and four assists. Taylor Willsey, Darren Poitras, Denny Night and Ty Fedler had singles for Saulteaux.
Game two of the series was played in Maymont, where the Settlers earned a 7-2 victory and a 2-0 lead in the series.
Hubbard and Poitras combined for five goals while Colby Beierle and Reegan Johnston had the others for Maymont.
Tootoosis and Andrew Peyachew scored for the 3 Stars. Leitner earned the win while Checkosis was saddled with the loss.
Game three was scheduled for Thursday in Maymont.
In the second versus third series, it was a highly emotional game that had Radisson skate to the 7-3 win in the series opener.
Jade Boklaschuk had two goals and two assists for the winning team while Cameron Stott, Kenton Haugrud, Payden Jonescu, Joey Mychan and Troy Rookes hit the back of the net.
Jon Rose was saddled with the loss while Roddy Hoffman, Brett Michnik and Lee Ulmer tallied for the Beaver Blues.
Rob Kostyk played while earning the win for the Wheatkings.
Game two was played Wednesday in Battleford and Radisson earned the 3-1 win to take a 2-0 series lead in a well-played game by both teams.
Game three of the series is schedule for Friday in Radisson and, if necessary, game four goes Tuesday back in Battleford.
