THE BATTLEFORDS - After missing a season due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Saskatchewan Prairie Hockey League has returned to action with three games over the weekend.
The senior hockey league's season began Friday with two games in the Battlefords. At the Access Communications Centre the Meota Combines beat the Spiritwood Timberwolves 9-2. In that game both Brett Miller and Justin Waskewitch each had two goals and an assist.
Also that night, at Battleford Arena, the Battleford Beaver Blues beat the Maymont Settlers, also by an 8-2 score. Blake Oborowsky had two goals for Battleford while Chase Mossman scored both Maymont goals.
Saturday, the Maidstone Jets won over Spiritwood 9-5. Brick Potratz had the hat trick for Maidstone, while Chase James, Dane Leismiester and Ryden Ross each had two goals for the team. Kirk Chief also had a hat trick for Spiritwood.
Next up on the SPHL schedule is Meota hosting Battleford on Friday at Access Communications Centre, and then on Saturday Spiritwood hosts Perdue and Maidstone hosts Meota.
