Santos Martial Arts celebrates its first year with medals and smiles

Hafford was introduced to program a year ago by Guro Jun Santos from Saskatoon, who holds a fifth degree black belt in Sikaran. He also has over 25 years of experience in the arts.

Many of the Hafford members competed in the annual Sikaran Tournament in Saskaton Nov. 13.

Matthew Wilson and Jordon Gall both won gold in forms and silver in sparring in their divisions.

Michelle Gall earned gold in sparring and bronze in forms.

Michael Boyko was the other gold medal winner take top honours in sparring.

Kacy Tkachuk was a double silver medal winner in forms and sparring and was voted the most improved student of the year in the youth-coloured belt category.

Jason Gall won silver in forms.

Two bronze medals went to Dustin Oliver.

Sonora Moore won bronze in forms and sparring.

The other medalist for the Hafford club were Elias Brevik with bronze in forms and Reeve Johnson with bronze in sparring.

Other locals who competed in Saskatoon include Ward Johnson, Colby Tkachuk, Cristal Brevik, Don Griffin, Nicole Taylor, Jenna Gall, Dyson Welkie and Fay Santos-Vargas.

The class is learning new art and having fun every Wednesday evening in the Ukrainian National Hall and invite anyone interested to contact Jun Santos at 880-6677 or 978-0459 or Wanda Boyko at 549-2136.

Sikaran offers well-rounded martial arts in a family oriented atmosphere. Improve health and self-confidence while having fun. Everybody is welcome regardless of physical abilities.
