They lost on the road but won huge at home.
On June 22, the Marysburg Royals senior baseball team travelled to Saskatoon to take on the Saskatoon Blue Jays.
The game started well as Marysburg jumped out to a 5-2 lead after two innings.
"After that, things did not go so well," admitted Curtis Strueby of the Royals. "We fell apart in the field, making seven errors over the next four innings."
Colin Bauml pitched four innings for the Royals and Mathew Strueby pitched two.
"We did not help out our pitchers at all, as they only gave up four earned runs," Strueby noted.
Offensively, the Royals played well, with eight hits.
Curtis and Luke Strueby led the way with two hits and three RBIs apiece. The final score was 11-7 for the Jays.
Our next games were on Sunday, June 26, in Marysburg against the Saskatoon Dodgers.
"These games were huge for us to win, as a couple of losses would have really hurt our playoff chances," Strueby noted.
The first game saw Paul Strueby pitch a complete game three-hitter and the Royals were solid in the field behind him, committing only one error.
The bats were lively with 10 hits - Cole Bauml, Brent Puetz, and Luke Strueby led the way with two hits apiece.
The second game saw Mathew Strueby take the hill and throw a complete game one-hitter as the Royals won 10-0.
The defence played well, and did not make a single error.
The bats were big again, pounding out 11 hits, with Cole Bauml leading the way with three hits and three RBIs.
"We needed those two wins as things are really tight in the league standings," Strueby noted. "Our record now stands at 6-6, which is good enough for second place right now."
The Guns and Outlaws are right behind the Royals, however, with games at hand.
"So every game is important, which is usually the case in this league, as it is always very close," Strueby said.
"That loss to the Blue Jays hurt, as we simply did not play well," he added. "If we had played like we can in that game, we would have a little more breathing room. But we rebounded very nicely with the two wins over the Dodgers."
The Royals will now have two weeks off, which normally, they would not mind, Strueby indicated.
However, due to a rained out Father's Day tournament, and the fact that the team will be unable to attend the Kenosee tournament this year, the team will not play as many games as they usually do over the course of a season.
The team will be very busy once they start up again, though. They will play eight league games in the two weeks heading into the Senior AA Provincials, which will be held in Saskatoon on the August long weekend.
The Royals will next play on July 10, against the Saskatoon Blue Jays in Marysburg. The doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m.
