Bats were flying on a dry Marysburg ballfield on July 10, while rain fell in other parts of the region.
The Marysburg Royals senior baseball team was able to play both games of their doubleheader against the Saskatoon Blue Jays that afternoon, though the sky kept threatening to break open.
These two games were the team's first after a two-week layoff, and were important as four teams in the Saskatoon Senior Baseball League are separated by just two points in the league standings.
In the first game, the Royals jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and they never looked back.
Colin Bauml pitched the complete game shutout, giving up only five hits in the win.
The Marysburg defence also played well, making just one error behind Bauml, and the bats were anything but silent. The Royals had nine hits in the win, with Cole Bauml and Luke Strueby leading the way with two hits each.
The final score was 7-0.
The second game saw Marysburg win by another huge margin of 8-1 behind a complete game from Mathew Strueby.
The Royals' defence was flawless and the bats were lively as well - the Royals had nine hits once again with Cole Bauml and Geoff Strueby leading the way with two hits.
"We played really well, especially for having a two-week layoff," said Royal Curtis Strueby. "We played two really sound ball games, so that is good to see, as Provincials are only three weeks away."
The Royals have received their draw for Provincials and they are in a pool with the Saskatoon Blue Jays and the Yorkton Yankees. The other pool features the Saskatoon Outlaws, Lloydminster Twins, and the Holdfast Trappers.
The wins over the weekend pushes Marysburg's record to 8-6, which is good enough for second place in the league right now.
"We have some big games coming up against the Outlaws and the Smoking Guns, both who are neck and neck with us in the standings,"said Strueby.
Their next action is a doubleheader on Sunday, July 17 in Marysburg at 1 p.m. against the Saskatoon Outlaws.
