The much needed rain in the Northwest is welcomed by all, but it has thrown a wrench into the North Saskatchewan River Baseball League schedule.
On back-to-back nights, Mother Nature has interfered with two games, as the Meadow Lake versus Standard Hill Lakers game was postponed Wednesday as well as the Lloydminster Midget Twins and St. Walburg Reds game that was scheduled to be play Tuesday.
Despite the rainouts, three games were played Tuesday, as the Unity Cardinals beat the Unity Midgets 14-4. The Cardinals improved to 5-1 while the Midgets fell to 1-5.
The Cardinals Regan L'Heureux has helped the team climb into third place, as he had a .615 batting average. The Cardinals also have had a balanced pitching rotation as Graeme Gieni, Shane Gimas and Francis Kiefer have all recorded wins.
Also Tuesday, The Lloydminster Meridian Twins continued their winning ways with a 5-1 win over the Mervin Flyers. Kelly Hoffer continues to lead the offence as he has a .467 average in 15 at bats this season. Also Troy Winterhalt and Warren Stang have supplied stellar pitching for the Twins.The Twins are 7-0-1 on the season while the Flyers sit in the middle of the standings with a 3-5 record.
The third game played Tuesday had the Border City Blue Jays moving back to 4-4 with a 7-1 win over the Standard Hill Lakers. The Lakers are 2-3-1 and have lost their last three games.
Thursday, the Unity Cardinals were scheduled to play in Lloydminster against the Border City Blue Jays, the Unity Midgets were at home to the Mervin Flyers and the Lloydminster Midget Twins visited the Midwest Expos.
