Peewee Barons stride forward in provincials

The Battlefords Peewee AA Barons took another step forward in the Centre Four Hockey League provincial draw, but did so by the skin of their teeth.

After winning by three goals on home ice against Humboldt, the Barons were on the road Saturday for game two of the two-game total goal series.

Dax Desmarais was in net for the Barons while Paul Cubbon, Cody Clarke, Blake Oborowsky and Gavin Nolin all scored in regulation.

Humboldt scored their seventh goal with less than five minutes to play and led by three goals forcing overtime.

Late in the first overtime period, Jayden Nachtegaele scored for the Barons advancing them to the Centre Four Hockey League provincial championship against West Central.

Game one goes at the Battleford Arena Friday at 7:45 p.m. against West Central. Games two and three are set for Feb. 23 and 25 in Kindersley.
