The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League announced the recipients of the players of the week for Oct. 2 to 9, producing a new batch of names who produced on the ice.
The defenceman of the week honours went to Tyson Newell. The Melville defenceman had a goal and four assists in three games while the Millionaires earned five of six points.
Brody Luhning, who has been continually improving since returning to the North Stars from the WHL earned an honourable mention for defenceman of the week along with Nipawin's Scott Bollefer and Weyburn's Ryan Whitwell.
The SJHL player of the week was Robbie Ciolfi of the Humboldt Broncos. Ciolfi had six goals and two assists in three games, including two goals against the North Stars Friday.
Humboldt's Andrew Johnston, Melville's Ian McNulty and Flin Flon's Cameron Blair were honorable mentions.
In net, the top goaltender last week was Melville's Alex Wakaluk. Wakaluk stopped 54 of 56 shots in two starts, and earned two wins. Steven Glass of Estevan, Andy Desaultels of Flin Flon and Davis Jones of Nipawin earned the honourable mentions.
In other SJHL news, action on the trade wire picked up over the weekend. Weyburn acquired Tyler Borstmayer of Melfort for future considerations. Flin Flon dealt Nicholas Ledd and former Battlefords Midget Stars forward Beau Stewart to the MJHL's Swan Valley Stampeders for goaltender Connor Darowski and future considerations. Estevan received Connor Milligan from the AJHL's Camrose Kodiaks for future considerations. The Bruins also traded Ryan Crosson to the CJHL's Pembroke Lumber Kings for future considerations.
