NIPAWIN, LA RONGE — The Nipawin Hawks won their first game of the season against the La Ronge Ice Wolves 5-4.
At the Sept. 24 game in La Ronge, first blood was drawn with a goal by the Hawks' Evan Bortis during a power play. La Ronge quickly answered with their own goal by Nolan Doell. Andrew Schaab and Carson Dobson completed the first periods scoring two more goals for the Hawks.
After a scoreless second period, the third period saw La Ronge score a goals by Nolan Doell during a power play, followed by another by Nate Looft. Nipawin then answered with two more goals, by Liam Bell and Phil Laberge. La Ronge then used the final moments of the match to score a goal by Kole Christensson.
Chase Hamm of the Hawks stopped 27 out of 31 shots, while La Ronge's Alex Bell stopped 25 out of 30.
The two teams will compete in Nipawin tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.
