The Cando senior boys' soccer team made their 19 wins look easy all season and they did it again at provincials winning the seven versus seven provincial title.
After winning regionals in North Battleford the previous weekend, Cando had high expectations for the provincial tournament in Rosthern and didn't disappoint.
In their first game, Cando ran out to an early lead and held Rosthern Junior College off the board in the first half. Rosthern scored twice in the second half, but it was a technicality as Cando went on to a 11-2 win.
The win put Cando through to the final where they went up against Se Se Wa Hum, edged by Cando 5-4 in the regional final. Again, Cando was too much for their opponent to handle and won the gold medal match 7-1.
In 20 games this season Cando lost just once and outscored their opponents 188 to 36. They earned five shutouts while scoring more than 10 goals in nine games this season.
The team was led offensively by their captain Jamie Wahobin with 39 goals. Next on the leader board was Tyson Pahsaknunk with 32 goals.
It was a dominating season for Cando and with the success of the team, five players have found some individual soccer success as well. Wahobin, Pahsaknunk, Quinton Mosquito, Jamieson Wahobin and Terry Moosomin were all selected to the Native Sons Soccer Club in Saskatoon. The Native Sons head to Europe next summer taking part in the Gothia Cup in Gothenburg, Sweden and the Knowsly Cup in Liverpool, England. Last year Cando had one representative, Brendon Wahobin, selected to the Native Sons team.
Another Cando team at provincials on the weekend was the senior girls. The girls lost twice at the seven versus seven provincial playoffs in Outlook.
