It was a season to savour. A season to never forget.
The Humboldt Collegiate Institute (HCI) Mohawks senior girls basketball team held its annual year-end banquet on May 9, looking back with pride on what was undoubtedly the finest season in their team's history.
Joining the team for a celebration of their achievements - which included their first-ever provincial championship - was University of Saskatchewan women's basketball head coach Lisa Thomaidis.
The team handed out several awards. Paige Crozon got the shiniest piece of hardware in winning the award for most valuable player. Crozon was a force all season at both ends of the hardwood for HCI, and her offensive output during provincial playdowns was a major reason for the team's success. Her example on the court and on the bench also earned Crozon the Mohawks' award for leadership, an honour she shared with Caitlyn Graf.
Crozon shared the award for top offensive player with another graduating forward, Lindsey Larson. Larson was the other big offensive force throughout provincials, spurring the team on with her tenacity and hard work inside the opponents' key. Her stellar two-way play also earned Larson recognition as the Mohawks' top defensive player.
Kaitlyn Grieman was recognized for her hard work on every play with the Mohawks' "Hustler of the Year" award. Amanda Wuchner took home rookie of the year honours.
Susanne Skulski and Kaytlin Hantke were named the team's most improved players.
Jillian Ottmann and Caitlyn Graf were recognized for their scholastic achievement in balancing athletics with strong grades.
