Mohawks honoured at Grid Iron awards

Seven members of the Humboldt Collegiate Institute (HCI) Mohawks nine-man football team were honoured at the Saskatchewan Grid Iron Awards banquet held November 4 in Martensville.

Seven members of the Humboldt Collegiate Institute (HCI) Mohawks nine-man football team were honoured at the Saskatchewan Grid Iron Awards banquet held November 4 in Martensville.
Coaches of teams in the North East Nine Man High School Football league each nominated players for awards, and the players voted on the winners. A player from each team in the league received an award for their team.
Josh Giddings, receiver, was named Humboldt's Most Outstanding Offensive Player, while on defence, the most outstanding player was linebacker Jordan Hilgers.
Humboldt's top quarterback was Jordan Gerwing, their top receiver was Giddings again, and their top offensive lineman was Dillon Buckle.
Of the defensive linemen, Darren Henry was named the best Mohawk, Jordan Hilgers was declared the top Linebacker for his team, and Braden Richards was the team's top Defensive Back.
Jordan Hilgers was also named the most Outstanding Defensive Player at the banquet and Shawn Gardiner, head coach of the Mohawks football team, was named Coach of the Year.
Matt Dominquez, a member of the Saskatchewan Roughriders in their 2007 Grey-Cup-winning season was the guest speaker for the evening.
The special guest was Tom Sargeant, head coach for the Saskatoon Hilltops, and the master of ceremonies was Rod Pederson, the voice of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
