Sometimes you have to be good to be lucky and lucky to be good. Whatever the combination, nine members of the Battlefords Horseshoe Club have earned some provincial hardware.
The provincial tournament was July 23 and 24 at Manitou Beach.
Of the nine pitchers from the Battlefords, all had at least a fourth place finish or higher.
In the 30 A-event, Howard Weitzel captured first place with Vern Bannerman earning second. Bannerman and Weitzel switched places in the ringer A-event, as Bannerman was the winner.
Clarence Drescher was fourth in the 30 B-event.
In the 30 C-event, Peter Dudek came home with a third place finish.
Two BHC members placed high in the 30 D-event, as Frank Ironstand finished second and behind him was William Wintonyk in third place.
In the Ladies' B-event, Marg Kemp was first while Doreen Dudek was first in the Ladies' D-event. Kemp was also first in the ladies' ringer B-event.
Kemp continued her winning ways in the mixed doubles category, as she and Glen Rayner of Prince Albert were first. Kemp also teamed up with Ray Peterson of Whitewood to capture third place in the provincial doubles B-event.
Provincial doubles A-event winners were Marlene Ironstand and Colin Finnie of Kenaston.
Finally in the skins event, Weitzel won the A with Drescher winning the B.
The season is nearly winding down for the local club, as they will hold a small tournament during Northwest Territorial Days.
