There wasn't a men's league in the newly expanded Saskatchewan Ball Hockey League in the Battlefords this season, but that didn't stop three local area players from trying the expanding game this season in other centres and find themselves on Team Saskatchewan.
Tim Desjarlais and Mike Bugg from the Battlefords played in the Saskatoon league this season and were asked to join team Saskatchewan along with Justin d'Entremont, who has lived in Unity for a number of years and played in the Lloydminster men's league this season.
The three of them, along with 18 others, played in the Men's Ball Hockey National Championship Aug. 10 to 12 in Brampton, Ont.
The Saskatchewan Teabaggers went 0-4 in the tournament after losing 7-0 to the Calgary Phantoms, 3-0 to the Brampton Midnight Express, 6-3 to the Vancouver Falcons and 7-0 to the Montreal Black Knights.
Of the three goals scored by Team Saskatchewan in the tournament, d'Entremont had one gaol while Bugg earned an assist.
The hope is that the popularity of the Saskatchewan Ball Hockey League expands across the province and more players in smaller centres like the Battlefords get an opportunity to play.
