Midget AA Barons
The Barons won back-to-back games for this first time this season. The most recent win came in their lone game on the weekend in Shellbrook against Parkland. The Barons skated to a 10-1 win and leapfrogged Parkland in the Centre Four Hockey League standings with a 3-15-0 record.
This weekend, the Barons will be in Prince Albert Saturday and Beardy's Sunday.
Midget A Barons
The long season of the Barons #1 came to an end Sunday as they lost 5-3 in Edam. The Barons played most of their games with six or seven players and it was the same guys who were dedicated all season. Give credit to the players and coaches, who did show up, but it will likely be something the Battlefords Minor Hockey Association looks at next season. The Barons were 5-13-2.
The Barons #2 finished their season with a 3-2 win in Turtleford and grabbed the third spot in the STEP League standings with an 11-6-3 record.
The Barons will face the 8-10-2 Meadow Lake Storm in the first round of the playoffs. Game one goes Monday in Meadow Lake with game two scheduled for Tuesday at the Battleford Arena.
If necessary, game three goes Feb. 11 at the Battleford Arena.
In provincial A action, the Barons will host La Ronge in game one of their two-game total-goal series Sunday.
Midget Sharks
One of each. That was the result for the Sharks in their three home games on the weekend, a win, loss and tie. Friday, the Sharks lost 12-0 to a skilled West Central team. Saturday, the Sharks battled Elrose to a 2-2 game, which saw a handful of penalties handed out in the third period. Sunday, was more of the same, as the Sharks and Elrose met once more and again the third period had more penalties, but it was the Sharks coming away with the 4-2 win.
The Sharks sit at 5-13-1 and will be in Tisdale and Melfort this weekend looking to move from seventh to sixth in the Sask Female Hockey League standings, as they take on the North East Flyers.
Bantam AA Barons
It was an unsuccessful weekend for the Barons, as they lost both their games on the weekend. In Battleford they lost to West Central 4-3 and in Meadow Lake they lost 12-3.
This weekend the Barons are in Prince Albert Saturday and Rosetown Sunday to take on West Central.
The Barons sit sixth in the Centre Four Hockey League standings with a 5-12-2 record and have five games remaining.
Bantam A Barons
The STEP league Barons will wrap up their regular season Thursday at home to Onion Lake. The Barons entered the game with a 5-7-1 record and in fifth place.
Last weekend, lost they 10-2 and 6-1 to Spiritwood and Goodsoil.
The Hi-Way 14 Barons lost twice on the weekend as they played Elrose/Biggar and Kerrobert. The Barons lost 5-2 Friday and 12-2 Sunday.
The Barons will finish the regular season schedule Friday in Biggar.
The Barons are third in the standings with an 10-5-2 record.
In provincial action, the Barons are set to host Stanley Mission Feb. 12 at Battleford Arena.
Bantam Sharks
The Barons were scheduled to play in North Battleford Friday against Rosetown, Saturday in Tisdale and Sunday in Hudson Bay. Two of the three scores were recorded and it was the Sharks winning 4-1 in Tisdale and losing 3-2 to North East in Hudson Bay.
The Sharks had a provincial game Wednesday night at the Don Ross against Swift Current.
League action for the Sharks continues Saturday at the Agriplex against the North East Lakers and Sunday in Dodsland against Rosetown.
Peewee AA Barons
The Barons came out fired up for a Tuesday night provincial game and skated to a 2-0 lead after the first period. Gavin Nolin scored the games first goal on a beautiful tic-tac-toe passing play. Jayden Nachtegaele and Owen Lamb had the assists.
Nachtegaele scored later in the first from Brandon Lesko.
Nachtegaele was at it again in the second period, but Humboldt were also able to score twice and the teams went into the third period with a 3-2 score.
Nachtegaele assisted on a Nolin goal and scored from Lamb to lead the Barson to a 5-2 win. Nachtegaele also drew a penalty shot, but Humboldt goalie, Braxton Stenson, made a big save in the third period.
Mathew Flath was strong in net for the Barons, who will be back in Humboldt this weekend looking to advance in provincials from the Centre Four Hockey League semi final series.
The Barons lost a league game last week against West Central and fell to 10-6-2 in the standings.
Peewee Sharks
The Sharks completed their regular season with a 6-3 loss to Wainwright dropping them to 10-5-1 in East Central Alberta Female Hockey League action.
Due to injuries, the Sharks entered the game without three regulars in the lineup. The short staffed Sharks remained eventhrough two periods, as it was tied 3-3. Wainwright scored three unanswered goals in the third period for the win.Caylin Edwards led the Sharks scoring with two goals and Nahoni Tootootis added a single.
The Sharks' have a home-and-home series of exhibition games next weekend against Dodsland.
Their playoff action begins Feb. 20 when they will hosta team that hasn't yet been determined.
