Ladies hit the ice in Outlook

As the Battlefords prepare to host the men's provincial curling championships next week, the women are battling this week for a berth in the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Twelve of Saskatchewan's best are in Outlook for the SaskPower Scotties Tournament of Hearts Provincial Women's Curling Championship. Two rinks from the Northwest a - Robyn Silvernagle representing s Meadow Lake and Darlene Gillies representing Unity - are in the tournament.

On the Gillies team is third Wanda Heitt, lead Tracy Heidt and second Trish Johnson of the Battlefords. Team Gillies won a C-event qualifier over Tina Hill's Battlefords rink Jan. 16 in Tisdale at the northern playdown.

The Gillies rink played Patty Hersikorn in their first round robin game Wednesday amd won 5-4.

Thursday, the Gillies rink played Stefanie Lawton, who is 1-0 at 10 a.m. and at 2:30 p.m. they went up against another team, which won their first game - Michelle Englot.

Friday, they will play Mandy Selzer and Saturday they will wrap up their round robin play against Penny Barker at 9 a.m.

In the second pool, Silvernagle lost to Amber Holland and has to play Cathy Inglis, Chantelle Eberle, Cindy Ricci and Debbie Folk.
