All seven teams in the Battlefords and District Ladies' Fastball League were in action Monday night at the Flats as the league playoffs began.

Two teams remain undefeated in the playoffs while one team suffered its second loss and had their season come to an end.

The Northwest Junior Vipers finished first after the regular season and had a bye in the first round of the playoffs. All other teams were playing off to see which playoff bracket they would fall into.

The second place Unity Midget Panthers took on the seventh place Unity Bantam Panthers in one first round match up. The midget team came away with an easy win thanks in large part to one big inning. Trislyn Isaac was the starter and winning pitcher for the Midgets, who advanced to the A-side of the playoffs.

In the third versus sixth game, the Edam Ladies took on the Battlefords Survivors. In a close game Edam prevailed with Tami Duhaime earning the win on the mound over Laurel Whitehead-Pauls.

The third game of the first round saw the trend continue with the higher seed winning. The Edam Midget Blue Sox beat the Battlefords Bantam Bandits. The Bandits led early in the game, but lost by a couple runs. Christa Blaquiere was the winning pitcher for the Blue Sox.

On the A-side, the Junior Vipers played the Edam Midgets and had an offensive outburst to move forward in the playoffs.

Brittany Fedler was the Vipers' pitcher and dominated as she gave up just one run in the first inning. Blaquiere was the second batter and went around to score in the first but after that Fedler and Rikki Fedler faced 10 batters getting nine out. They combined for eight strikeouts in the win.

As for the Vipers' offence, Brittany George scored three times and all nine batters plated at least once. The Vipers led 3-1 after the first inning and scored nine straight runs in the second to help them to the 13-1 win.

The other A-side game had the Unity Midgets up against the Edam Ladies. The Unity Midgets won 4-2 with McKenna Heintz earning the win. Unity advanced to play the Vipers Wednesday night at the Flats.

The final game played Monday was on the B-side between the Battlefords Bantam Bandits and the Battlefords Survivors.

The score was 0-0 after two innings, and Carolyn Gutting scored the game's first run in the third inning for the Survivors.

The Bandits responded with four runs in the home half of the third inning.

In the fourth, the Survivors scored two more runs, but the Bandits followed that up with four of their own to lead 8-3.

The Survivors scored just one run in the fifth inning and the final score was 8-4 for the younger Battlefords team.

Between games the league handed out the MVP awards to the teams' top players. Once again the Edam Ladies MVP was Duhaime. Kelsey Wildeman was the Unity Bantams award winner. Whitehead-Pauls won as the Survivors representative. Sydney Rempel won for the Bantam Bandits. Amelia McCaffrey was the Edam Midget Blue Sox winner. Tessa Weum won for the Vipers. The Unity Midget Panthers award winner was their catcher Taylor Timmermans.
