Week 12 was a busy one in the North Saskatchewan River Hockey League with eight games on the schedule and teams battling for playoff positions.
Jan. 12 in Meadow Lake, The Stampeders downed the Edam Three Stars 6-5 in overtime.
Meadow Lake had six different goal scorers, as Darren Caron, Ray Esau, Dustin Gorst, Logan Gorst, Shawn Opikokew and Jordon Oystrick scored for the home team. Sean McConnell was in net for the Stampeders' win.
The Edam offence came from Joel Budd, who had two goals, Jacob LaClare, Ryan Roach and Martin Smith, who also added two assists.
Two days later, Turtleford handed Edam their ninth loss and 11th straight game without a win by a 7-2 margin. Luke Zbaraschuk scored twice with Craig McKee, Jordan Macnab, Adam Gray, Rory Gervais and Doug Bannerman scoring for the Tigers. The winning goalie was Chad Terres.
Also Friday night, St. Walburg beat Paradise Hill 6-1, Meadow Lake won 4-2 at home against Spiritwood and Wilkie went into Maidstone in a battle for second place and came away with a 4-1 win.
The big performers Friday were St. Walburg's Sheldon Williamson and Aaron Goldade with two goals and an assist each and goalie Bryan Bridges, Meadow Lake's Tedi Hood had a goal and an assist, Spiritwood's Trevin Hujber, who had a goal and an assist and Wilkie's Nick Pernitsky, who allowed just one goal against the dangerous Maidstone team.
Saturday, the action continued with St. Walburg earning their 12th win of the season. The Eagles hosted Meadow Lake and shut them out 7-0. Bridges earned the shutout while six different players found the back of the Stampeders' net.
Wilkie and Maidstone both earned their 11th wins of the season Saturday as well. Wilkie won 7-1 at home against Turtleford, as Mike Sittler had two goals for the Outlaws. Rick Cey, Barrett Penner, Ryan Scheafer and Brett Schell all had multi-point nights.
Dustin MacDonald backstopped the Jets to a 5-2 win over Spiritwood, as Brett Harrison had two goals and an assist and Vincent Jonasson, Jason Roberts and Ben Schwartz had single goals.
Tuesday, the Stampeders earned their fifth win of the season when Rick Dallyn was the backbone in a 6-2 win against Paradise Hill. Once again the Meadow Lake offence was spread between six players and it was Jamie Jeanotte and Garrt Kypers scoring for Paradise Hill.
Wednesday, the Maidstone Jets moved into the tie to top spot with their 12th win. The Jets hosted Edam and won 7-4.
MacDonald was again in net for the Jets facing Quinton Gauthier.
Harrison had a hat trick while Keven Rhinehart and Ryan Johnston both had two goals to supply the Jets' offence.
Roach had two goals for the Edam, but it didn't match up to the Jets' offence.
The North Saskatchewan River Hockey League has three games schedule for Friday night and four Saturday.
